Getting There: Directions to the John Brown Trails

From downtown Lake Placid: Head south on Main Street. Turn RIGHT at the light onto South Main Street/Sentinel Road just before the Sunoco Gas Station. Drive 0.6 miles. Continue onto NY-73 E/Cascade Road. Drive 0.9 miles. Turn slight RIGHT onto Route 910M. Drive 417 feet to the intersection with Old Military Road. Go straight across Old Military Road, continuing onto John Brown Road. Drive 0.4 miles. There is a parking area on your LEFT.

From Saranac Lake and points northwest: From the outskirts of Saranac Lake, take the Sara-Placid Road (NY-86 E) toward Lake Placid. Drive for 4.9 miles. When you see a big green road sign advising you to bear right for Keene, turn RIGHT onto Old Military Road (Essex County Route 35). Drive for 3.2 miles. Turn RIGHT onto Old John Brown Road. Drive for 0.5 miles.  Turn RIGHT onto John Brown Road. The parking area is on your immediate LEFT.

From Keene Valley and points southeast: From Keene Valley, head north on Route 73. Drive 17.5 miles. On the outskirts of Lake Placid, you will drive over a bridge across the Ausable River and past the ski jumps on your left and the Lake Placid Horse Show grounds on your right. Take a slight LEFT onto Old Military Road (County Highway 35), following the small brown sign directing you to the John Brown Farm. Drive 499 feet and take an immediate LEFT onto John Brown Road, following the small brown sign to John Brown's Grave. Drive 0.4 miles. There is a parking area on your LEFT.
