Getting There: Directions to Lake Colby Railroad Tracks

From downtown Lake Placid (11.2 miles): Head northwest on Main Street toward Parkside Drive. Drive 0.4 miles. Bear LEFT onto Saranac Avenue at High Peaks Resort. Drive 8.4 miles to Saranac Lake. Turn LEFT onto River Street by the NBT Bank. Drive 0.5 miles. At the stop light by the Town Hall, go STRAIGHT, continuing onto NY-3 (George Lapan Memorial Highway). Drive 0.8 miles. Turn RIGHT onto Edgewood Road. Drive 0.3 miles (past the Saranac Lake High School pond). Turn RIGHT onto Ampersand Avenue. Drive 0.5 miles. Turn LEFT onto John Munn Road. Drive 0.2 miles. There is a small pull-off area on the right where you can park just as the road bears left, before Hulbert Supply. The path to the rail corridor is adjacent to the pull off.

From downtown Saranac Lake (1.2 miles): Head north on Main Street toward Broadway. Bear LEFT onto Broadway at Berkeley Green. Drive 0.6 miles. At the traffic light, turn LEFT onto Ampersand Avenue. Drive 0.3 miles. Turn RIGHT onto John Munn Road just after the Saranac Lake Civic Center. Drive 0.2 miles. There is a small pull-off area on the right where you can park just as the road bears left, before Hulbert Supply. The path to the rail corridor is adjacent to the pull off.

From Keene Valley and points south: Head north on NY-73 toward Keene. Drive 4.9 miles. Just past the Keene Public Library on your right and Dartbrook Rustic Goods on your left, take a slight LEFT to stay on NY-73. Drive 12.6 miles. On the outskirts of Lake Placid, you will drive over a bridge across the Ausable River and past the ski jumps on your left and the Lake Placid Horse Show grounds on your right. Take a slight LEFT onto Old Military Road (County Highway 35). Drive 3.6 miles. You will come to an intersection; take a LEFT onto NY-86. Drive for 6.1 miles. Turn LEFT onto River Street by the NBT Bank. Drive 0.5 miles. At the stop light by the Town Hall, go STRAIGHT, continuing onto NY-3 (George Lapan Memorial Highway). Drive 0.8 miles. Turn RIGHT onto Edgewood Road. Drive 0.3 miles (past the Saranac Lake High School pond). Turn RIGHT onto Ampersand Avenue. Drive 0.5 miles. Turn LEFT onto John Munn Road. Drive 0.2 miles. From Malone and points north: Head south on NY-30/Finney Boulevard. Drive 31.7 miles. At the intersection of NY-30 and NY-86 (by the sign for Paul Smith's College), turn LEFT onto NY-86. Drive 11.5 miles. Cross the railroad tracks. Turn RIGHT onto Ampersand Avenues at the stop light, just after High Peaks Plaza. Drive 0.3 miles. Turn RIGHT onto John Munn Road just after the Saranac Lake Civic Center. Drive 0.2 miles. There is a small pull-off area on the right where you can park just as the road bears left, before Hulbert Supply. The path to the rail corridor is adjacent to the pull off.

From Tupper Lake and points west: Head northeast on NY-3/Park Street. Drive 19.8 miles. Turn LEFT onto Edgewood Road (just before the athletic field). Drive 0.3 miles. Turn RIGHT onto Ampersand Avenue. Drive 0.5 miles. Turn LEFT onto John Munn Road. Drive 0.2 miles. There is a small pull-off area on the right where you can park just as the road bears left, before Hulbert Supply. The path to the rail corridor is adjacent to the pull off.
